When combining the road with the ferry or the train, you can get up and about – giving you a welcome break from road traffic.
Some Things to Consider When Motorhoming in France or Spain
There are some things to consider when driving to France or Spain by motorhome. Read our handy checklist:
- A UK Driving Licence is required. You must carry your photocard licence with you at all times. If you still have a paper licence, or your licence has been issued in either Jersey, Guernsey, Gibraltar or the Isle of Man, you will need to apply for an ‘International Driving Permit.’ This currently costs just over £5.
- Current EHIC’s are still valid until the expiry date. Otherwise, each traveller will require one of the new GHIC’s (Global Health Insurance Card). This will entitle you to free or reduced healthcare in the EU.
- You can visit France or Spain for up to 90 days within a 180-day period, without requiring a Visa. You can find more information on the government website.
- Since August 2021, you no longer require a Green Card.
- Check that your passport is valid. Allow at least 10 weeks, if you need to apply for a new one.
- Always apply for the appropriate travel insurance to cover your trip.
- If taking your dog – visit your vet at least 1 month prior to your trip, to obtain the correct paperwork. You can find more information on the government website.
