COVID-19 Travel Rules

Now that travel restrictions in the UK have been eased, many people are beginning to take holidays again. Although the pandemic has resulted in many people’s foreign holidays being cancelled this year, UK staycations have largely been unaffected since lockdown eased.

If you’re thinking of taking a UK break in a motorhome this year, then our latest blog is perfect for you. Read on to learn more about how travel restrictions and how they can impact on motorhome holidays.

What Are the Benefits of Travelling in a Motorhome?

Being cooped up during lockdown and missing out on travel opportunities has hit many people in the country very hard. And with some foreign countries still implementing travel restrictions and prohibiting tourists from crossing the borders, many of us will have to accept that our holiday plans this year will be drastically different. However, because of this there has never been a better time to travel in a motorhome!

If you hire a motorhome and remain within the UK, you can be sure that you:

  • WON’T need to self-isolate upon your return home
  • WILL be able to holiday in a group of up to six people
  • WON’T need to use shared cooking or washing facilities

Campsites in England opened on 4th July, with Scottish campsites following suit on 15th July. Welsh campsites reopened fully on 25th July and in Northern Ireland, they’ve been open for business again since late June.

Whilst we have many more freedoms than we did earlier in the year, the Government rulings on travel in and around the UK are liable to change – in accordance with the ‘R’ rate. As such, it’s crucial to check the latest Government advice before you set off on your break.

What Does This Mean For Me?

Current Government advice is to plan every journey before you make it, down to the routes you take and the things you bring with you. Some routes may be different or diverted due to social distancing measures set out. This includes the pedestrianisation of certain streets in town and city centres to accommodate outside dining.

If you thoroughly plan all the items you need with you then that will enable you to not make any unnecessary stops at supermarkets, DIY shops etc. Keep in mind that the other parts of the UK including Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well as numerous counties and regions are operating under different rules or localised lockdowns. Avoid travelling to or through these areas so you’re not caught out and to keep the spread of the virus down.

The 2-metre social distancing rule with people outside of your household (except your support bubble) is still firmly in place. Make sure when you travel you keep to that rule and spend as little time as you can in garages, services and petrol stations.

Please note if you are experiencing any coronavirus symptoms or are self-isolating as a result of coronavirus symptoms or an instruction issued via Test & Trace, you should not travel under any circumstances.
